Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Zettelkasten ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you visit zettelkasten.online (the "Site"). This Site is a marketing and information website for the Zettelkasten / Mind Dump project.
Who we are
The Site is operated by Zettelkasten. If you have questions about this policy or your data, contact us at hello@zettelkasten.online.
What we collect
Information you provide
If you use our contact form, we receive the information you submit (such as your name, email address, and message). That data is sent to a third-party form relay service (FormSubmit.co) so it can be delivered to us by email. We use this information only to respond to your enquiry.
Analytics (with your consent)
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Visitor Tracking (VisitorTracking.com) to understand how the Site is used. This may include:
- Pages viewed and general browsing activity
- Referring website or campaign source
- Approximate geolocation derived from IP address
- Browser, device, and operating system information
- Session and interaction data (such as clicks and scroll behaviour)
Visitor Tracking describes its service as cookieless, but it may store identifiers in your browser's local storage to maintain session continuity. Analytics does not run unless you choose "Accept all" in our cookie banner.
Strictly necessary storage
We store your cookie preference in your browser's local storage so we do not ask you on every visit. This storage is essential to honour your choice and does not require separate consent.
Third-party services
- Visitor Tracking — analytics, only when you consent. Visitor Tracking GDPR information
- FormSubmit.co — relays contact form submissions to our email address when you submit the form.
- Write.as (blog) — our blog at blog.zettelkasten.online is hosted separately and may use its own cookies or analytics. That service is governed by Write.as's own privacy policy.
- GitHub Pages — the Site is hosted as static files. GitHub may process server logs (including IP addresses) as part of hosting infrastructure.
Legal bases (EEA/UK visitors)
Where applicable under the GDPR, we rely on:
- Consent — for optional analytics tracking.
- Legitimate interests — to operate, secure, and improve the Site, and to respond to enquiries you send us.
- Contract / pre-contractual steps — where you contact us about a product or service.
How long we keep information
- Contact form messages: kept for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up, then deleted or archived according to our normal email retention practices.
- Analytics data: retained according to Visitor Tracking's policies and our account settings.
- Cookie preference: stored locally in your browser until you clear site data or change your choice.
Your choices and rights
You can change your analytics preference at any time using Cookie settings. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict use of your personal data, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email hello@zettelkasten.online.
If you are in the EEA or UK, you may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
International transfers
Our third-party providers may process data in countries outside your own. Where required, we take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place.
Children
The Site is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version. Material changes may be highlighted on the Site.
